Annexed: The Powerful Story of the Boy who Loved Anne Frank

Rating: 4 stars

Summary: Peter Van Pels and his family have lost everything due to the perils of World War II. He is dreading going into hiding with his father's co-worker, Mr. Frank, and their family. They have a secret warehouse set up for them in an old friends work building, where they must live until the war ends. What was it like hiding in the Annex with Anne Frank? What was it like to be with her every day while Anne wrote in her diary? What were the others possibly thinking living on the inside?

Review: This is a wonderful piece of young adult historical fiction. It captures everything during the time of world war II, all put through the thoughts and feelings of a young school boy who falls in love. I really liked this book, because it is different from all of the non-fiction books on world war II. The author truly tried to imagine what a boy of his age would be thinking at this time in his life, with all the death and peril on the outside, and him and his family living on the inside. Can you imagine never knowing what happened to the rest of your family, your school teachers, your home, and all of your friends? This novel is very descriptive, and if you want to learn the famous story of the diary of Anne Frank, but want something a little more interesting to help you through it, this is the book for you.
